EU official’s comment shows post-bailout credit line is domestic talk-gov’t sources

The statements by a European Union official on Wednesday who rejected the need for the precautionary credit line for Greece after it exits its adjustment program in August confirms that this debate is used domestically for political expediencies, government sources said on Wednesday.
The sources were responding to comments made earlier in the day by an EU official who stated that Brussels does not favour a post-bailout safety net for Greece, because if it is imposed on Athens, it could cause political friction which would undermine the implementation of reforms.
The source said the domestic debate “does not reflect the needs and prospects” of the Greek economy, and called on those who still insist on a safety net to “stop embarrassing themselves”.
