Turkey’s aggressive stance and its violation of international treaties in terms of Cyprus and Greek islands will be raised emphatically at all international ogranisations, especially the European Union, the foreign ministers of Greece and Cyprus said after their meeting ion Monday.
“Turkey?s behavior at this time does not threaten the interests of the Republic of Cyprus alone, but it also works against the EU, which is investing in the East Mediterranean’s becoming an alternative energy corridor for Europe,” new Cyprus Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides said.
On his part, Greek FM Nikos Kotzias said that Turkey currently “believes it may open fronts everywhere, and violate international laws.” He said the country should show particular respect for maritime law.
Christodoulides, in Athens with a delegation, is scheduled to meet separately with Greek President Prokopios Pavlopoulos and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Tuesday.
Kotzias on Greek soldiers held in Turkey
Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias on Monday made a statement regarding the arrest of two Greek servicemen by Turkish authorities, during a joint press conference with his Cypriot counterpart Nikos Christodoulides after their meeting at the foreign ministry in Athens.
Kotzias stated that “Turkey ought to apply the provisions of International Law and not turn a routine procedure into a major legal and political problem”.
