A parliamentary examining committee investigating scandals in the health sector held its first session on Tuesday, with main opposition New Democracy Vice-President and MP Adonis Georgiadis as its first witness. Georgiadis was giving testimony concerning the hiring of 23 employees at Hellenic Center for Disease Control & Prevention (KEELPNO) when he was health minister and allegations that he used 13 of them in his personal office.
Georgiadis said that he waived his right to banking secrecy and submitted records of his account transactions to the committee.
According to Georgiadis, “the entire case is a set up by Alternate Health Minister [Pavlos] Polakis,” as “there is no signature and the writing on the specific document is not mine”.
On a audio document referring to the case, Georgiadis said that it was the product of forgery by Polakis.
