“Greece has made significant progress on the refugee issue,” executive director of Frontex, Fabrice Leggeri, said on Saturday in a statement to Der Spiegel.
“Greece is still facing great challenges. The number of migrants is enormous and the pressure is huge. Frontex wants to support Greece,” he underlined.
Asked on the refugees who are trying to cross Evros, he stressed: “We have a new situation in Evros. Many migrants are waiting for the opportunity to reach Greece near the Turkish town of Odrin. We already have a small group of officers in the region … In May, the number of refugees fell again. If necessary, we will discuss it with the Greek authorities whether it is necessary to send more Frontex staff members.”
