ND leader Mitsotakis: The gov’t is presenting a growth plan with no growth

Main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis critised the goverment’s overall economy policy, addressing parliament on Wednesday.
He claimed that the government did not guarantee the necessary prior actions for a clean exit and presented instead a “growth plan with no growth”. He reiterated his demand for general elections and called the government “ruthless demagogues”. Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ last dirty lie, he said, is the fairy tale on a clean exit from the loan memoranda.
Mitsotakis quoted official data showing that growth has been revised downwards for 2018 and criticised the government’s overall plan. “In the last few months you have been discussing in secret with institutions a so-called holistic plan, which is only a vague wish list with some right reforms and many obsessive ideas”, he said.
“You have already signed for cuts in pensions and a reduction in the tax exemption limit. The lending from Europe will end at the end of August, but the measures as well as the strict surveillance will remain”, he said, adding that “the return to the markets after the end of the memorandum resembles a leisurely walk in a minefield”.
Mitsotakis also referred to issues of foreign policy and condemned what he said were secret discussions on the FYROM name issue. He called on PM Tsipras to clarify his position on the proposal of the “absurd name  ‘Macedonia of Iliden’,” and whether it is still under consideration.
Concluding, Mitsotakis reiterated his request for elections. “The Greeks should have a choice on who will lead them to the next day in safety and with a plan,” he said.
