President Pavlopoulos: Greece is the outpost of the West and of the European Union in the East”

Greece is the outpost of the West and of the European Union in the East, and a stable democracy, Greek President Prokopios Pavlopoulos pointed ou on Thursday after receiving a delegation of the Washington-based American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA).
At the presidential mansion, Pavlopoulos said, “It is a well-known fact (…) that Greece is the outpost of the West and of the EU in the East. It’s a country with a stable democracy. We want our partners and allies to support Greece at this time, specifically because of the importance the country holds for the EU.”
Pavlopoulos spoke, among other things of the Cyprus issue and the FYROM name issue, and invited Greek-Americans to invest in Greece.
“AHEPA supports Greece and diaspora Greeks,” Supreme Treasurer George Horiates said in response, and helps wherever it can. The organization also has branches in Europe, Greece and Cyprus. “When we return to the US, we will visit Congress in Washington to discuss the issues you mentioned. There are a lot like me who may not speak Greek very well, but Greece and diaspora Greeks are in our hearts,” he said.

Later, the AHEPA delegation paid a visit to National Defense Minister Panos Kammenos at the Ministry, and discussed relations between Greece and the United States in defense, as well as developments in the Northeast Mediterranean.
