Deputy Migration Minister Yiannis Balafas spoke about the increased flow of migrants and refugees to the islands and Evros River , speaking on Wednesday to public broadcaster ERT radio.
“There is major difficulty with the rise of flows from Turkey. Up to now we did not have significant flows in Evros and the reception centres’ capacity was specific. We are trying to address the problems created there. You think that some things have been managed and suddenly unpredictable events reverse any programming”, underlined Balafas.
“We are bringing into effect a plan to manage these phenomena; for example, increasing the capacity of the infrastructures in the mainland, but even this is not without its limitations. We also have contact with the Turkish side on the issue at technical level to address the problem”, he added.
