FM Kotzias: FYROM should “get serious” about name negotiations

The leaders of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) should “get serious” about the name issue talks instead of conducting negotiations through statements to the media, Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Kotzias said in Luxembourg on Monday.
Following a Foreign Affairs Council meeting of the European Union, Kotzias said: “It is necessary for FYROM’s leaders to understand that negotiations cannot be held through interviews and constant public statements. They must show seriousness and accept a method that would lead us to a resolution.”
Included in the council meeting’s agenda were developments in Syria and the prospects of accession to the EU for western Balkan countries.
Kotzias condemned the use of chemical weapons in Syria and the war in Afrin and said the EU should consider ways to protect the Kurdish population.
