Proposal on FYROM name will pass even without ANEL’s vote, says Leventis

Centrists’ Union leader Vassilis Leventis on Tuesday expressed the opinion that “the FYROM issue is probably “heading for treason” and will be passed in parliament even if the government’s junior coalition partner Independent Greeks (ANEL) does not vote for it. Speaking to ANT1 television, Leventis claimed that the “Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and Democratic Alliance are ready to vote for [the proposal] if the irredentist elements are eliminated.”
Leventis, who is to be briefed on the latest developments in the FYROM issue by Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias in the afternoon, also sternly attacked President of Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Defence Minister Panos Kammenos over the confrontational tone they have adopted towards Turkey, noting that “this ping-pong does not help”.
“Pavlopoulos should not be making statements and giving answers to everyone wherever he goes. We should not participate in their folly. We should be more cautious in our statements,” he said.
Finally, he dismissed scenarios where the two Greek servicemen held in Edirne prison in Turkey were “exchanged” with the eight Turkish officers that have applied for asylum in Greece as “stupid” and “humiliating” for the country.
