Problems with Thessaloniki water supply continue on Sunday

The northern Greek city of Thessaloniki continued to experience problems with its water supply on Sunday, despite the completion of repairs to the Aravyssos pipeline – one of the main pipelines providing water to Greece’s second-largest urban centre. According to the city’s water company EYATh, the process of filling up reservoirs from the excess water from Aravyssos in order to fully cover the city’s needs is continuing as planned.
The areas of Evosmos and Kordelio continued not to have water on Sunday, with the situation expected to improve after 15:00. In other areas where the water supply was expected to be interrupted for 24 hours, the reinforcement with the additional Aravyssos water has helped normalise the situation.
Water will be cut off to parts of Sykeon from 13:00 to 1:00 on Monday in order to restore the supply to Agios Pavlos and Eptapyrgio.
Problems in other areas, the water company said, were due to excessive use of water (washing cars, balconies etc) that prevented water reaching all consumers and created problems with water pressure, especially in upper stories.
On problems of cloudiness, EYATh said this was normal after the water supply was cut off for several hours and advised consumers to let the taps run for a while until the water clears.
