Novartis case: Special preliminary investigation committee to meet in Parliament behind closed doors

The special preliminary investigation committee on the Novartis case decided during its first meeting in Parliament on Monday to convene behind closed doors.

According to regulations, it is the committee’s prerogative to hold open or closed-door meetings.

According to sources, the proposal for the confidential meetings was supported by the ruling coalition SYRIZA and ANEL, and by main opposition New Democracy. Supporters of open meetings included the Communist Party of Greece, the Democratic Coalition, Potami and Golden Dawn. The Union of Centrists said it would support the committee’s decision on the issue.

The committee will meet again on Tuesday afternoon (6:30 p.m.) to discuss procedural and scheduling issues.
