Ambassador Pyatt at Delphi forum: Greece a major partner of the US

Greece is a major partner of the United States and both countries have common values and interests, US Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt said at the Delphi Economic Forum on Friday.
In a discussion with journalist Alexis Papachelas, the American ambassador spoke of the efforts to bring American investments in Greece and said he was encouraged by the results of business meetings held between Greek cabinet members and American companies.
He mentioned in particular the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in Washington, DC in October 2017 and the road trip by Digital Policy Minister Nikos Pappas early in February 2018 to East and West coasts, which “covered an awful lot of ground.”
Pyatt also conveyed the concern of American businesses interested in investing in Greece, which wanted reassurances about stability in tax policy and that investment agreements with Greek companies would “still apply a couple of months down the road.”
He also underlined the effort to bring several US companies to the Thessaloniki International Fair in 2018 – where the United States is the honored country – which would result in great opportunities, as it will coincide with Greece?s completion of its adjustment program.
Among other things, Pyatt, who is speaking at several events of the forum, also expressed US concern for Russian influence in the western Balkans, and said his country was interested in seeing a successful outcome in negotiations for the FYROM name issue.
