The two Greek servicemen who are detained by Turkey will appear before a court with a single charge of illegal trespassing in a restricted area on Monday, according to sources speaking on condition of anonymity on Friday.
The two army staff were on patrol at a wooded border area in the northern prefecture of Evros, and apparently crossed inadvertently into Turkish territory under adverse weather conditions. They were arrested by a Turkish patrol and are being held in Edirne.
Sources said that talks to resolve the issue were being held between the chiefs of national defence staffs in Greece and Turkey. The military chiefs spoke on Thursday, the day of the incident, and again on Friday.
