Moscovici: Greece can become a ‘normal country’ after the end of the fiscal programme

European Economic and Financial Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici said that Greece must become a “normal country” again, with full rights and obligations after the completion of the fiscal adjustment programme, in statements made ahead of his visit to Athens on Thursday.
During Wednesday’s presentation of European Commission’s winter economic forecasts, he said that the recovery of the Greek economy is “stable”, as indicated by the forecasts for 2018 and 2019, which foresee a 2.5 percent growth for both years.
“The progress regarding the successful conclusion of the third programme is very important and we will focus our efforts on it. This success is real and on this basis we will inspect what will follow afterwards, what the supervision that Greece will be after the programme,” noted Moscovici, adding that his personal point of view has always been that Greece belongs in the “heart” of the eurozone and the EU. “Additionally, I believe that after the end of the programme it could gradually become a ‘normal country’ again, with full rights and obligations,” he underlined.
